today i decided to go to the thrift store to buy clothes for the cold weather. i realized that i’m really going to look like a hobo this year. i’m all about layering and have yet to find a way to make it look fashionable. i bought some gloves, a sweater, and a couple of scarves. i bought one of the scarves because it was big and i realized i could wrap it all around my head and face. it is white so it makes me look like a mummy or someone who just got treated for a massive head wound.

my shoe collection isn't ready for the winter either.
after that i thought about going to get my hair cut. i’ve been putting that off for a while now. besides going to the doctor and the dentist, getting my hair cut is one of my least favorite things to do ever. those things are just so boring and uncomfortable for me. but every time my hair gets long, i remember when i was little and watching sesame street, there was a lady singing or something with big bird and she had hair down to her ankles! it disgusted me then and the thought of it still grosses me out now. so i always think of the big bird lady to try and motivate me to get my hair cut.
another memory i have from sesame street is from this-
this song triggered my first feeling of depression. i’m not kidding, it made me cry when i was little.
i also watched this a couple times today -
is this interesting?

my bike when i first got it -

my bike now -

my kids at the school i work at love when i tell them stories for some reason. they don’t care what it is, if i can’t think of anymore funny stories to tell them about myself or my family, they start asking me to tell them stories about my roommate or anyone else i know. this year i was lucky enough to have the same kids that i had last year. last year we had a day in the classroom and we decided it would be fun to go around telling each other our most embarrassing stories. at first the kids were weird about sharing their own stories, but once i got it started, the kids were excited for their turn to talk. it turned out to be the of the funniest days i can remember.
they remember it too, and always ask me if we can have a most embarrassing stories day again. because they want to do it so often, we are all pretty much fresh out of embarrassing stories to tell. all the stories i’ve told the kids are pretty much from when i was around their age. this is because all my recent embarrassing moments aren’t even very recent, nor are they very appropriate to share with 3rd graders.
this made me realize that i need to start doing more things that may potentially embarrass me. hopefully embarrassing things that i won’t be able to share with my kids, but maybe a long the way i will also fall down some stairs and/or not be able to make it to a bathroom on time, for the kid’s sake.

in front of my apartment building.
anyhow, this cracks me up. the wig is still on the lion, i can even see it now when i look out my window. actually, it looks even funnier now because the rain we’ve had since this picture was taken really has taken it’s toll on that wig.
oh yeah-

it's about time.
i’m also excited.
me and phil collins both.

Lesbian Activist Del Martin Dies at 87
August 28, 2008
I just read the article about it. Afterwards, I immediately wanted to read the comments people posted. I’m always entertained by the arguments people have, especially on a topic like this one.
There were already over 1000 comments. I didn’t read them all obviously, but I can sum it up for you- about 500 people seem to think she’s going to hell, about 500 people don’t.
Anyhow, here is an example why it’s funny to read them -
TCTheLeader 02:49 AMAug 28 2008 It is always a sad day when you see older people that have been snared for so long in a perverted lifestyle. There is no real joy or peace of mind when you know that you are hardhearted and defiant to the natural law. I trust that the remaining lady will have an encounter with the Creator in a positive light being established in everlasting love and abundant grace.——– AND IF YOU EVER HAVE AN ABILITY TO PRODUCE A CHILD OR BORN TO CLOSE FAMILY MEMBER.. THE CURSE IS ON YOU.. IT WILLBE A FLAMING LITTLE QUEEN FROM HELL… OR THE BUTCHIEST DYKE YOU EVER SAW.. I HAVEN’T MADE THE DECISION OF WHAT IT WILL BE YET.. SO PRAY HARD..
How to Become a Writer by Lorrie Moore
I find Lorrie Moore to sometimes be hilarious in a strange way. Above is a good example. I assume that an actual writer would find it funny as well. I still like it even though I’m not one, I wanna be a movie star/astronaut.
Anyhow, here’s a song that I heard today that I like -
The Shaky Hands – We Are Young

i really love that video.
anyhow, as of september 1st i will no longer be keeping it real here in old irving. i’m moving to logan square. my best friend, kyle, moved to beloit. i don’t think i’ve missed someone this much ever, so i’ve decided to reserve my best friend heart space for him until he returns permanently in like 2010.
i will have a new roommate at my new place. her name is ellen. an interesting fact about her – she waited on MGMT during lollapalooza weekend. they didn’t tip her. so if you illegally downloaded their album, don’t feel bad. they’re cheap too.
today i tested out reading a book in public as opposed to my bedroom. i always wondered why some people prefer it, but i understand now. i always feel funny after reading, kind of spacey, and it’s nice to be around people when i feel that way. it makes me in a good mood and i think everything is funny, even when a creep on the sidewalk called me “mommy”. instead of giving him the finger, i attempted to wow him by popping a wheelie on my bike. it was awesome, i got like an inch off the ground.
