last week i went on a field trip with the kids from the school to the circus.  on the bus ride home we saw a man choking a woman on the side of the road.  the bus was still moving, so gabe just yelled out the window and apparently scared the guy because he let go of the woman and walked away.  the kids kept talking about it the whole way home, and i didn’t know what to say to the kids about it.  all i could think to do was make one of my boys promise that he would never hit his girlfriend(s) when he grew up.  he right away promised that he never would and added, “i wouldn’t even hit my girlfriend if she was ugly!”

this is my cousin drew.  he is usually crabby and cries a lot.  one time a random lady was telling him how cute he was and he told her to shut up.  i’m obviously not around him a whole lot, but as far as i can tell, i think that story sums him up pretty well.

anyhow, my sister had a housewarming party last weekend, and drew showed up.  i decided that i was going to try and make him like me.  it totally worked.  he followed me around the whole time he was there, it even got to the point where i was trying to hide from him eventually.  i made him like me by taking into consideration what he would consider to be fun.  which isn’t making baby noises and telling him how cute he is, but by pretending that me and him were going to go around and cut all the girl’s hair off at the party.  i would be like, “let’s go cut off brooke’s hair!!”, and he would laugh and laugh.  and then he started pointing at any girl he saw and saying that we should cut their hair off.  he loved the idea of that.  at one point i said, “i’m going to cut your mommy’s hair off!”.  that time he didn’t laugh or anything.  he got angry and screamed, “noooooooooooo!!”

we are thinking about cutting your hair off.

today i decided to go to the thrift store to buy clothes for the cold weather.  i realized that i’m really going to look like a hobo this year.  i’m all about layering and have yet to find a way to make it look fashionable.  i bought some gloves, a sweater, and a couple of scarves.  i bought one of the scarves because it was big and i realized i could wrap it all around my head and face.  it is white so it makes me look like a mummy or someone who just got treated for a massive head wound.

my shoe collection isnt ready for the winter either.

my shoe collection isn't ready for the winter either.

after that i thought about going to get my hair cut.  i’ve been putting that off for a while now.  besides going to the doctor and the dentist, getting my hair cut is one of my least favorite things to do ever.  those things are just so boring and uncomfortable for me.  but every time my hair gets long, i remember when i was little and watching sesame street, there was a lady singing or something with big bird and she had hair down to her ankles!  it disgusted me then and the thought of it still grosses me out now.  so i always think of the big bird lady to try and motivate me to get my hair cut.

another memory i have from sesame street is from this-

this song triggered my first feeling of depression.  i’m not kidding, it made me cry when i was little.

i also watched this a couple times today -

is this interesting?

my kids at the school i work at love when i tell them stories for some reason.  they don’t care what it is, if i can’t think of anymore funny stories to tell them about myself or my family, they start asking me to tell them stories about my roommate or anyone else i know.  this year i was lucky enough to have the same kids that i had last year.  last year we had a day in the classroom and we decided it would be fun to go around telling each other our most embarrassing stories.  at first the kids were weird about sharing their own stories, but once i got it started, the kids were excited for their turn to talk.  it turned out to be the of the funniest days i can remember.

they remember it too, and always ask me if we can have a most embarrassing stories day again.  because they want to do it so often, we are all pretty much fresh out of embarrassing stories to tell.  all the stories i’ve told the kids are pretty much from when i was around their age.  this is because all my recent embarrassing moments aren’t even very recent, nor are they very appropriate to share with 3rd graders.

this made me realize that i need to start doing more things that may potentially embarrass me.  hopefully embarrassing things that i won’t be able to share with my kids, but maybe a long the way i will also fall down some stairs and/or not be able to make it to a bathroom on time, for the kid’s sake.

anyhow, this cracks me up.  the wig is still on the lion, i can even see it now when i look out my window.  actually, it looks even funnier now because the rain we’ve had since this picture was taken really has taken it’s toll on that wig.

oh yeah-

its about time.

it's about time.

i’m also excited.
